Corsican culture in the spotlight with polyphonic songs
To host the evening, we are lucky enough to welcome 3 artists from the island of Beauty:
Petru Antò Casta, Michel Cacciaguerra and Patrick Mattei.
They are kind enough to share their traditional Corsican music and songs with us. A veritable institution on the island, cantu is an integral part of the Corsican identity and comes in a wide range of songs for 1, 2 or 3 voices.
Paghjella, or 3-voice polyphonic singing, uses a precise structure: first the Seconda, which carries the song, followed by the Bassu, which supports it, and finally the Terza, which adds its ornaments (called ribuccati).
